Going home, via many layovers

From here, it was back-to-back flights home, the first leg of which involved an overnight layover in Paris. It's been a while since my last sleepwalking (after a hefty dose of Benadryl, at the height of allergy season) tour here... I'd forgotten how much history and grandeur are written into the layout of every city block, and was surprised by how nice and understanding the drivers were towards the masses of tourists.

Iceland Day 6, Akranes-Reykjavik-Grindavik

It's almost game time! We concluded our family excursion to the southwest, and packed up an ungodly number of bags for Reykjavik. 

We didn't do any sightseeing today, but had a few last-minute wedding preparations to finish. After Chewie sent his family off on a walking tour of downtown souvenir stores, we cozied up for some coffee and an intense dance playlist editing session (the editing was intense, though maybe dance was too...). I have to confess that until then I'd never given DJs too much thought, but after listening to the first and last 10 seconds of each song repeat about 40 times, I gained a deep appreciation for this neurosis-inducing job.

And so our trip began. We were assigned exit row seats across from the door of the plane, just the two of us to the row. I was pleased by this trivial serendipity, and pretty certain that Chewie thought nothing of it. Four-and-half sleepless hours later we landed in Reykjavik, almost four years after our first trip here. At 6:30am the sky already flushed a gentle white from the northern sun diffusing through clouds. We counted all eight bags, picked up our car (a silver Mazda CX-5), and swung back to pick up Matt, whose flight had finally landed.
